Jacksonville Red Light CameraJacksonville Implements Red Light Cameras

“I received a notice of a red light violation in the mail…What are my options?”

Under the guise of public safety, the City of Jacksonville has implemented the use of red light cameras. In reality, this is nothing more than a calculated move by city officials to get into your wallet. Don’t let them. Now is the time for you to be more vigilant then ever behind the wheel. However, if you do find yourself on the receiving end of a citation, do not be troubled. We can help.

1. Ignore It

The worst thing you could do is to simply ignore the notice. No matter how hard you try, it will not disappear on its own. In fact, after 30 days, a Uniform Traffic Citation will be issued, carrying a minimum fine of $256 and possible points. Failure to respond to the Uniform Traffic Citation within 60 days will result in the suspension of your driver’s license. Do not let this happen to you.

2. Pay It

The Mark Wandall Traffic Safety Act imposes a $158 fine upon the registered owner of the vehicle that is caught passing through a red light, regardless of who is actually in control of the vehicle. No points will be assessed to your driving record. This would be a very suitable option for those individuals that actually violated the act. However, more often than not, the individual driving the vehicle is not the registered owner. Why should you, the owner, bear the penalty for someone else’s mistake? That is where we come in.

3. Fight It

At the Law Offices of Randy Reep, we are well versed in resolving traffic citations with our clients’ best interest in mind. We understand when and how to implement various defenses that could be used to establish your innocence. You should not be held responsible for the wrongful actions of another. Be vigilant. Be prepared. Contact us today for a free consultation.
